Calling all talented teens! You can audition for San Leandro's Got Talent, a new city-wide talent show and fundraiser for teen programs. We are looking for talented teens, ages 13 to 18, who can sing, dance, juggle, play an instrument, rap, do spoken word, you name it.  Performers selected for the final show have a chance to perform for local celebrity judges, win great prizes, and have a video on YouTube.  Audition applications are now available at the Main Library, the Recreation and Human Services Department Offices at the San Leandro Civic Center, and online at www.sanleandro.org/depts/rec/san_leandros_got_talent.asp.  Audition applications must be returned by January 8th, 2013.  Auditions will take place on the evenings of January 14 and 15 at the Main Library.

San Leandro’s Got Talent is a collaboration of the San Leandro Public Library’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) and the Youth Advisory Commission (YAC). TAG and YAC are joining together to offer a fun new event for the community while raising money for teen programs. Proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships will be used for teen programs at the library as well as YAC’s mini-grant program for youth-serving organizations.

San Leandro’s Got Talent will take place in the Lecture Hall at the San Leandro Main Library on February 8th, 2013 from 7-10pm. Tickets will be sold at the Main Library (300 Estudillo Avenue) and the Recreation and Human Services Department South Offices (835 East 14th Street) beginning January 8th, 2013. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for youth.

About the Teen Advisory Group

The Teen Advisory Group consists of teens in 8th through 12th grades. TAG’s goal is to help create teen programs at the San Leandro Public Library, suggest teen books, and raise library awareness in schools and the community. TAG meets once a month at the Main Library.

About the Youth Advisory Commission

The Youth Advisory Commission consists of high school students who live or attend school in San Leandro. YAC is an advisory body to the City Council regarding youth and teen issues. YAC’s goals are to interact with other public and private agencies on youth-related policies and programs, create and recommend projects and events for the San Leandro youth community, and learn about the role, services, and programs of local government.
