Mayor Stephen Cassidy and the City Council announced today that the City is partnering with the company Food Truck Mafia to bring San Leandro Street Eats to Downtown San Leandro. Starting on September 17, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., six to ten gourmet trucks will be open for business in the parking lot at 1550 East 14th Street (the site of the former Lucky/Alberston's store). San Leandro Street Eats will continue each Tuesday evening at the same time through the fall.

"San Leandrans have expressed a strong interest in having gourmet food trucks set up service here. We are pleased to partner with Food Truck Mafia to bring a wide range of gourmet food choices to residents and visitors in our Downtown on Tuesday nights," stated Mayor Stephen Cassidy.

The Food Truck Mafia has a following of over 6,000 people, hosting events in several cities, including Fremont, San Ramon and Pleasanton. Their roster of participating food trucks includes over 50 diverse vendors.

San Leandro Street Eats presents an opportunity to introduce new people to Downtown San Leandro, which will ultimately benefit existing brick-and-mortar restaurants and retailers. Food Trucks events can also demonstrate the strength of local demand for increased food options, helping the community attract new restaurants downtown over time.

San Leandro Street Eats is tentatively scheduled to run through mid-November at 1550 East 14th Street. Once development of a retail center begins at that location, plans are in place to re-locate the events to the intersection of Davis and Hays Streets.
