Districts 1 and 2 Town Hall Meeting - June 27

Mayor Stephen Cassidy and Councilmembers Michael Gregory and Ursula Reed will host a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, June 27, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14th Street. Topics of discussion will include: neighborhood safety and crime prevention; major economic projects and innovation strategy; and major transportation projects and condition of roads.

Lit San Leandro Featured at the Connected World Conference

The City of San Leandro and the Lit San Leandro fiber optic initiative were featured at the Connected World conference on June 11-12 in Santa Clara. The Connected World Conference brings together technology-driven professionals, tech-minded consumers, and upwardly mobile entrepreneurs, all around the idea of either creating or consuming the latest emerging devices and technologies. City Manager Chris Zapata and Patrick Kennedy of OSIsoft participated in a panel titled "Lit San Leandro Reinvents Innovation."

Pile Driving I-880 Southbound High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Project

Caltrans and the Alameda County Transportation Commission began driving piles at Marina Boulevard and Davis Street on June 3 and will continue through July 2, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

San Leandro Library Launches The Millennial Academy

The Library is pleased to announce the launch of the Millennial Academy, an exciting and innovative new program designed by and for Millennials, people aged 18 to 33. The Millennial Academy is made possible through a $15,000 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the California State Library.

The Millennial Academy will offer a wide range of free, engaging events and activities including career development workshops, technology related volunteer opportunities, gaming events, a homebrewing workshop (for Millennials 21 and over), hands on "hacker/maker" 3D Printing and Arduino Programming workshops, a film series, and a Beard & Mustache Competition. The events have been designed for Millennials, but all adults 18 and over are welcome to attend. For more information about the Millennial Academy, contact Bill Sherwood at (510) 577-7964.

BABIES N' TODDLERS STORYTIME
Designed for babies and toddlers up to age 3, this storytime is for the child and caregiver to participate together. We will sing songs, do fingerplays and many movement activities, and hear lots of short picture books! No registration required, but due to room capacity we will stop seating when we reach our seating capacity. We offer duplicate sessions at 9:30am and 10:30am for your convenience, so please choose just one to attend.

1:00  PM Main Library--Babysitting Workshop
Learn to be a responsible babysitter. Ms. Lee from Eden Medical Center will teach the basics, from diapering, feeding and burping babies to minor first aid. This workshop is open to students ages 11 to 14 and is $5, payable with cash or check made out to the Eden Medical Center. Space is limited. Registration is required at the Main Library Children's Desk beginning May 22.
1:00  PM FREE - Third Career Development Workshop at Main Library
Our third Career Development Workshop will focus on resume writing and interview skills on Wednesday, June 19 from 1 PM to 3:30 PM at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro. The workshop is free and no registration is required.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME
Designed for children ages 3-8 (siblings welcome too), our preschool storytimes feature the best in children's books, songs, and arts and crafts activities. Each week we offer a different theme. This drop-in program is for children and a caregiver, to help children get ready for kindergarten, get the reading habit, and to have fun!

Animal shows are very popular so arrive early for a good seat. Doors will close when we reach fire department room capacity.

10:00  AM Senior Commission Meeting
The Senior Commission advises the City Council on matters relating to the status and condition of senior citizens within the City, assesses and reports to the council on the social, health and other needs of senior citizens and recommends methods of meeting such needs. The Commission has nine members who serve four-year terms. The Senior Commission meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Senior Community Center, Room D. Located at 13909 East 14th Street.
