July 30th Community Meeting on Future Housing Growth

The Community Development Department will be hosting a community meeting on Wednesday, July 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Senior Community Center, located at 13909 East 14th Street, San Leandro, to seek public input on community housing needs and growth issues as the City moves forward with an update to its Housing Element. This meeting is part of a two-year program to update San Leandro's General Plan. For additional information, click here.

Davis Street Demolition and Full Freeway Closure

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin demolition work on the Davis Street bridge in San Leandro. The demolition work will start as early as July 7 and continue until July 24.

The majority of the work will be performed at night with lane closures on I-880. Lane closures and full freeway closures will be in both the northbound 880 and southbound 880 directions. Full freeway closures will be in one direction only each night. The lane closure hours are 9:00 PM – 5:00 AM on weeknights and 10:00PM - 8:00 AM on weekend nights. San Leandro Offers Business Tax Holiday

With an unparalleled, strategic location and the fastest internet connectivity available anywhere, San Leandro is poised to capitalize on the current economic recovery. To ensure that we maximize our success, San Leandro is expanding its efforts to welcome new businesses with a Business License Tax Holiday. This program will be effective immediately and will run for one year. Virtually all businesses that are new to San Leandro, including start-ups and businesses re-locating from other areas, will be exempt from the tax for their first year of operations.

9:30  AM Babies N' Toddlers Storytime (Main Library)
BABIES N' TODDLERS STORYTIME
Designed for babies and toddlers up to age 3, this storytime is for the child and caregiver to participate together. We will sing songs, do fingerplays and many movement activities, and hear lots of short picture books! No registration required, but due to room capacity we will stop seating when we reach our seating capacity. We offer duplicate sessions at 9:30am and 10:30am for your convenience, so please choose just one to attend.

1:00  PM D.I.Y. Workshop
Join Teen Librarian Loryn at the Main Library on Wednesday, July 23 from 1:00-3:00 pm and learn how to Do It Yourself! We'll be making our own whiteboards and tie-dye t-shirts using sharpies (please bring your own shirt!)

This event is part of the San Leandro Public Library Spark a Reaction! Teen Imaginators programs and is for teens going into grades 5-12. Registration is required, apply at the Children's Desk or by calling 510-577-3960.

1:30  PM Preschool Storytime (Main Library)
PRESCHOOL STORYTIME
Designed for children ages 3-8 (siblings welcome too), our preschool storytimes feature the best in children's books, songs, and arts and crafts activities. Each week we offer a different theme. This drop-in program is for children and a caregiver, to help children get ready for kindergarten, get the reading habit, and to have fun!
7:00  PM Human Services Commission
The Human Services Commission (HSC) identifies social needs in the community and recommends to the City Council possible ways to meet those needs, evaluates and encourages the provision of social services in the City, assists social services agencies with fundraising, and reviews requests for City financial support to social service agencies. The HSC has nine members who serve four-year terms. The HSC meets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Sister Cities Gallery at City Hall.
7:00  PM FREE Family Fun Night: Tales & Trails Storytellers (Main Library)
At this Family Fun Night, Bob Kanegis and Liz Mangual of Tales & Trails Storytellers present Seekers and Dreamers in Science and Story. Audience members of all ages will enjoy participatory storytelling and hands-on natural history. Refreshments served after the show.



8:30  PM Family Movie Night/The Muppets
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and snacks, and enjoy this summertime family event at Chabot Park. The Muppets, Rated PG. Showtime: 8:30 p.m. Admission is Free
