City of San Leandro business licenses are required for all businesses based in San Leandro and for persons who conduct business within San Leandro city limits, including those dealing with residential and commercial real estate rentals or who operate home-based businesses.
At the end of each year, renewal notices are sent out to all existing license holders to inform them that the annual renewal period has begun and to request updated information and payment of applicable fees by January 31 of the renewal year.
However, it is the responsibility of the business owner to renew the business license on time even if the renewal notice is not received. Penalties are assessed for delinquent accounts, regardless of whether a renewal notice was received.

The City of San Leandro now provides the option of Online Business License Renewal for most businesses with an existing business license. The process includes the use of PIN and account numbers that are provided in renewal letters that are sent out at the end of each calendar year as well as the verification of current account information and payment of fees online. (Some business types are also required to separately submit state employment quarterly wage and withholding report to verify employee and owner count.)
Businesses that cannot renew online include new businesses or any business that has expanded or changed its address as well as select types of businesses that require additional documentation including taxicab companies, peddlers/solicitors, massage establishments, fortune-telling and dance halls.
