Library Card/Account Information & Policies


Library Card Holder Responsibilities:

1. Accepts responsibility for the use of the library card, including all material on the library account.

2. Immediately reports lost or stolen cards to the Circulation Department at (510) 577-3970.

3. Follows library policies and procedures.

4. Presents the libray card for account transactions.

5. Pays all fines and fees. 


Lost Cards

Each cardholder is responsible for all materials borrowed on his or her library account. Library cardholders agree to immediately report a lost or stolen library card by calling the Main Library Circulation Desk at 510-577-3970. The account will be blocked. The fee for a replacement card is $3.00. The address verification documents described below must be presented along with payment of the replacement fee in order to obtain a new library card.

To Apply For OR Renew A Library Card

1. Bring to any library location at least two current address verification documents with matching address information: a photo id AND a current bill or auto registration.
 
a. The first address verification document must be a photo id:
i. California Driver's License
ii. California Identification Card
iii. United States Passport
iv. United States Military Identification Card
v. Student Body Identification Card

b. The second address verification document must be current and printed (not handwritten) in hardcopy or digital format:
i. One bill dated within the past 30 days OR
ii. An auto registration dated within the past year.
 
c. A third address verification document must be presented if the address information on the photo id and the second address verification document do not match.
    The third address verification document must be current and printed (not handwritten) in hardcopy or digital format:
i. A bill dated within the past 30 days OR
ii. An auto registration dated within the past year.

    The address on the second and third address verification documents must match.

2. When applying for a library card, the applicant will also complete a short application form.

a. Note: library card applications for children ages 4 to 13 must be submitted in person by a parent or guardian and signed by that individual in the presence of a library staff member. The signature grants permission to the San Lenadro Public Library to issue a library card and allow the minor access to the library's computers.



Card Types


San Leandro Resident Card (Free)  Residents residing within the incorporated city limits of the City of San Leandro are eligible for a free library card. Card must be renewed every three years.

Non Resident, City Property Owner /Taxpayer Card (Free)  Persons who own or lease property within the incorporated city limits of the City of San Leandro are eligible for free library cards. This card is limited to the taxpayer, spouse, and children between the ages of 4 and 17. In addition to the address verification documents listed above, printed and signed property ownership/lease documents (e.g. Property Tax Bill, dated within 1 year; Mortgage Verification; Deed of Trust; Close of Escrow, Rental/Lease Agreement) are required. Card must be renewed every year

Non-Resident, K-12 Student Card (Free)
Each student in grades K-12, who is enrolled in an approved public or private school is eligible for a free library card. In addition to the address verification documents described above that must be provided by a student's parent or guardian, current verification of San Leandro school enrollment is required. Card must be renewed every year.

San Leandro Teacher, K-12 (Free)
Any teacher who provides instruction at a public or private school serving kindergarten through 12th grade within the incorporated limits of the City of San Leandro or a designated school serving San Leandro residents, is eligible for a free library card. In addition to the address verification requirements described above, verification of employment as a full time teacher at the San Leandro school is required. Card must be renewed every year

Hourly User Card ($5.00 per hour)
Available to individuals who do not have a San Leandro Library card or San Leandro Library cardholders whose card is in good standing. The Hourly User Card provides one hour of computer access on the day that it is purchased only. No refunds are given. A current photo ID (see examples above) must be presented at time of purchase.

Non-Resident, Full-Time San Leandro Worker Card ($30.00 per year)
Available to individuals who work 40 hours per week at a worksite within the incorporated city limits of the City of San Leandro. In addition to the address verification documents described above, current verification of full-time employement is required. Card must be renewed every year.

Non-Resident, Family Household Card ($60.00 per year)
Available to all members of a family living at the the same address. For each person age 18 and above, the address verification documents described above are required. Card must be renewed every year

Replacement Card ($3.00 )
Each card holder is responsible for all materials on his or her library account and must immediately report a lost or stolen library card to the Main Library Circulation Desk at 510-577-3970.
