The Big Read 2016

The San Leandro Public Library is a six-time recipient of The Big Read grant from the National Endowment for the Arts! The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

The goal of The Big Read, the largest reading program in the U.S., is to bring together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment. The program seeks to restore reading to the center of American culture. San Leandro’s 2016 Big Read features The Maltese Falcon  by Dashiell Hammet. It's a detective novel - one of the best ever written - a brilliant literary work, as well as a thriller, a love story, and a dark, dry comedy. The program will run from February 27 through May 7 of 2106.
