Head to the Main Library on Wednesday, May 29 at 7pm for fun-filled evening with the famous Banana Slug String Band, who bring science, song and celebration to the Library for one night only! Their show is filled with catchy tunes, puppets, and lots of audience participation—it's toe-tappin’ science education at its best!

On Saturday, June 1 from 3pm to 5pm, enjoy an afternoon of activities for the whole family at the San Leandro Main Library, as we kick off the 2013 Kid’s Summer Reading Program, Reading Is So Delicious! In addition to a music concert with singer Gary Lapow at 4pm, activities will include a marshmallow & spaghetti tower building competition, crafts and games, early bird registration for our free youth summer reading programs, and a stuffed animal sleepover, where your stuffed animal will spend the night at the library. We will also hold a raffle for a bag of free books. Everyone who attends will get a raffle ticket, and those who donote a can of food to our food drive will get an extra raffle ticket. For one in six people in Alameda County, hunger is a reality. This summer, the San Leandro Library will join other libraries across California in collecting 10,000 pounds of food for those in need.

To kickoff our summer food drive, the Library will offer Food For Fines from Monday, June 3 through Saturday, June 8. During that time, library card holders can bring a non-perishable food item and your overdue book to the Main Library or our three branches, Manor, Mulford-Marina or South Branch Library, and we'll take $1 off your overdue fines, for up to $5 total ($1 per can). Food will be donated to the Davis Street Family Resource Center.
