Celebrate ArtIs Education Month at the San Leandro Public Library
March is "Art IsEducation" month, and to help celebrate the occasion, the Libraryhas teamed up with local organizations to offer several exciting programs.To help engage burgeoning young artists, the Arts Council of San Leandro also is pleased to offer free art workshops for children at two San Leandro Libraries. These free drop-in art workshops will be held at the following locations and times:
· Manor Branch Library on Tuesday, March 18 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm;
· Main Library on Tuesday, March 4 and Thursday, March 27 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
While these creative workshops are designed for children ages 6 to 10, all ages are welcome to attend. Registration is not required.
Thanksto art specialists from the San Leandro Unified School District, artwork fromall eight local elementary schools has been selected to be on display at theMain Library, located at 300 Estudillo Ave, and the Manor Branch Library,located at 1241 Manor Boulevard. The artworkwill be displayed in the children's room at the Main Library during regularoperating hours in order to see and be inspired by this fantastic student artworkfrom talented young artists at the Garfield, Jefferson, McKinley, Roosevelt,Washington and Wilson elementary schools. The Manor Branch also will feature dazzling artworkfrom Monroe and Madison elementary schools, as well as other neighboringschools.

The Main Library will host a Family Board Game Challenge on Saturday, March 15 from 1:30-3:30pm. Drop in to learn Parcheesi, a classic game enjoyed by players of all ages. Based on the ancient game of pachisi, considered the national game of India, it’s an exciting game of chase, race, and capture. We’ll also have more than 25 other board games to try. Games are available for kids ages 3 and up; Parcheesi is best for kids ages 7 and up. Questions? Please call us at 577-3960.
All ages are invited to an exciting Family Fun Night at the San Leandro Main LIbrary on Wedneday, March 19 at 7:00pm. Enjoy a fine cultural show of Indian Folk, Semi-Classical and Bollywood-style dance from the young performers of Ushanjali School of Dance. Refreshments served after the show. This is a Big Read program.
