| | CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY
The San Leandro Police Department will host a 10-week long Citizen Police Academy beginning September 18, 2013. Sessions are held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the San Leandro Police Department Building, located off Civic Center Plaza at 901 E. 14th Street. Graduation for the 2013 Academy takes place on Monday, November 18, 2013.
The purpose of the Academy is to provide San Leandro citizens with a basic understanding of how the San Leandro Police Department works and its role in making San Leandro safer. During the Academy, personnel from throughout the Department cover topics that include basic law enforcement as well as background on the Department's specialized units such as SWAT, Traffic, Crime Prevention and others. Each session provides hands-on activities, along with classroom instruction. The Academy includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Department as well as a police patrol ride-along. This is scheduled individually with each student outside of class time.
The Academy is limited to 24 students. Interested participants need to fill out and submit an application in order to enroll. The application deadline is Friday, August 30, 2013.
