The Administration division provides the vision and leadership for the Recreation and Human Services Department and establishes the department's mission and goals. This division also provides staff liaisons for the Council-appointed Recreation and Parks, Human Services, Senior and Youth Advisory Commissions.
The Human Services division is responsible for coordinating with the city's nonprofit agencies, governmental agencies, faith organizations, schools and businesses in identifying and providing programs and services that improve the quality of life for every person in San Leandro.
The division staffs the Human Services, Senior and Youth Advisory Commissions, and oversees senior programs and services, the volunteer program, the Monarch Butterfly program, Friends of San Leandro Creek and the coordination of the Community Assistance and Community Benefit programs, which administers grants and other funding for qualifying local organizations.
The Recreation division is responsible for providing programs and services that bring people together, foster human development, promote health and wellness, increase cultural unity and provide recreational experiences for people of all ages.
Activities include classes, camps, extended care programs, special events and trips that cover a broad range of interests, including sports, aquatics, fitness, cultural arts, personal enrichment and specialty training.
The division is responsible for the operation of the Marina Community Center, two park buildings and three swimming pools, and oversees reservations of the City's parks, fields and facilities.
