Noise generated by operations at the Oakland International Airport has been an issue of concern in San Leandro for several years. The Port of Oakland, which oversees airport operations, and the Airport's Noise and Environmental Compliance Office work closely with neighboring communities and airport users to find ways of lessening impacts from airport operations.
The Oakland Airport's Web site
provides extensive information regarding noise and other airport issues including a real-time flight tracking system
to view flight patterns in to and out of the Oakland Airport.
The City of San Leandro also participates in the Oakland Airport/Community Noise Management Forum and the North Field/South Field Flight Pattern Research Group. Citizen representatives to these groups are appointed by the City Council.
For more information regarding the City's participation in these groups and citizen appointments, please contact the City's Community Relations Representative at (510) 577-3358.
Although the City of San Leandro does take numerous steps to encourage airport action to reduce the impact of airport operations on San Leandro residents, the City has no jurisdiction nor regulatory authority over aircraft operations at the airport. Aircraft operations are largely regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
