AB 481 - MILITARY EQUIPMENT AND USE POLICY

California Assembly Bill 481 requires the San Leandro Police Department to obtain City Council approval by the adoption of a military equipment use policy prior to taking certain actions relating to the funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment as defined by the legislature.

To help guide this process, and create transparency for our community, on April 1, 2022, the San Leandro Police Department created a link to all of the required materials including the draft policy, current applicable equipment, and the full text of the bill.

Additionally, we are required to provide the public with a platform to register questions, concerns, or complaints about the use of each specific type of equipment outlined in the policy draft of AB 481.

To submit your questions, concerns, or complaints, please send a detailed email, along with your preferred contact method to [email protected] and a member of the San Leandro Police Department will respond back to you within 10 business days.

At the May 2, 2022, City Council meeting, the San Leandro Police Department will present this military use policy to the City Council and discuss AB 481.  Meeting information can be found here: https://sanleandro.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx
