The Age-Friendly Action Plan

The City of San Leandro is creating its first-ever Age-Friendly Action Plan. The goal of the five-year plan is to support the well being of all seniors in our community. Once complete, the Action Plan will serve as a five-year road map to ensure the Mayor, City Council, City departments, and community partners are held accountable to achieving the specific goals, projects and policies identified and prioritized by residents to benefit older adults and persons with disabilities in the city. The Plan will include budgets, staffing, timelines, partnerships and other detailed implementation information for each age-friendly project. Projects will align with AARP's eight domains of livability, a framework to help age-friendly communities organize and prioritize their work to become more livable for both older residents and people of all ages.

Our Planning Process

Age-friendly means different things to different communities. For San Leandro, age-friendly means a community that supports active aging, provides accessible infrastructure, promotes social inclusion, and fosters intergenerational connections. This planning process builds off of the advocacy of the City's Senior Commission and the recent age-friendly proclamation by the Mayor and City Council. See the planning process timeline below (and the following sections on this page) for more information about how to participate. Your responses will help develop a draft Action Plan by May 1, 2024, and a final Action Plan by June 3, 2024.

How to Participate

We encourage all residents to tell us what they think an age-friendly San Leandro should look like. You can share your opinions and vision with us in several ways:

Community-wide Survey

All San Leandro residents, regardless of age, are encouraged to complete and submit a short Age-Friendly Survey between now and April 12, 2024. It only takes a few minutes. Your survey responses will help inform the priorities and specific projects in the City’s first-ever Age-Friendly Action Plan. All completed surveys automatically enter you into a raffle to win a $50 Visa gift card. In just a few minutes you can rank the Action Plan projects the City should prioritize first. You can even offer and rank your own age-friendly project ideas. Click the appropriate language link below to take the online survey:
