California History Videos

The San Leandro Public Library has produced three historical video collections:

"California of the Past" - digital stories of Japanese American Relocation and Internment during WWII

  • The collection features 33 compelling, personal stories, which demonstrate how government action affected the lives of more than 120,000 Japanese Americans - 65% of them being American citizens.

The Legacy of the Nisei Veterans (WWII Stories of the 442nd and MIS)

  • The film stories share experiences of men in the segregated 100th/442nd RCT, the most decorated military unit of its size in U.S. History and the largely unknown story of the Military Intelligence Service (MIS).

The Legacy of the Nisei

  • Experience first-hand accounts of life in the World War II internment camps and of Nisei soldiers who fought for the United States while their families were interned in ten camps throughout the United States.
