What do I do when I receive a Stop Work Order notice?

Upon issuance of a Stop Work Order, the cited work shall immediately cease. The Stop Work Order shall state the reason for the order, and the conditions under which the cited work will be permitted to resume.

How do I remedy a Stop Work Order?

Contact the inspector listed on the Stop Work Order, or bring your copy to the Building and Safety division located at 835 E 14th Street. You may also contact the Building and Safety division by telephone at 510-577-3423.

What could happen if I continue to work in spite of the Stop Work Order?

Any person who shall continue any work after having been served with a Stop Work Order, except such work as that person is directed to perform to remove a violation or unsafe condition, shall be subject to penalties as prescribed by law.
