The City of San Leandro’s Youth Advisory Commission sponsored a Toy and Blanket Drive to support Calico, a non-profit organization in San Leandro that serves abused children. In addition to collecting toys, plushies, books, and hygiene products, YAC hosted a blanket making event where teens produced 20 fleece blankets. YAC extends sincere gratitude to all those who donated items and those who participated in the blanket making event. Huge shout out to YAC Chair Elizabeth Thomas, Co-Chair Judy Zhou, and the entire planning committee for the inspiring leadership and apparent passion to enhance the lives of San Leandro youth.

The YAC consists of twenty-one members who are appointed by the City Council. The YAC Commission meets on the 1st and the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm to discuss current local events involving our young adults, plan upcoming youth events, and/or complete special assignments given to them by the City Council.

Mission Statement (adopted April 14, 1997)

As a reflection of San Leandro's diversity, the Youth Advisory Commission is dedicated to working with the City Council to promote awareness, safety, and involvement among youth. It is our mission to ensure that youth needs and interests are seriously considered in crucial decisions that affect the entire community. To achieve this, the YAC will serve as a link between the City Council and San Leandro's young people by working to build consensus on contemporary issues of importance and to make sure that this consensus is heard.
