Have you visited the Butterfly Garden recently? It is still looking glorious with healthy stands of showy milkweed, cheery California Sunflowers, fragrant coyote mint and other native plants that are caterpillar and pollinator favorites. When it's sunny, you're likely to catch a monarch or two fluttering below their namesake mural, and they've been laying eggs on our milkweed. Few caterpillars make it to adults (many become lunch for spiders, wasps and other insects) but we spotted at least one chowing down on milkweed leaves. 

Through the summer and fall we will have regular weeding parties each first Saturday of the month from 10am-12pm at San Leandro Blvd. at Estudillo Ave, across from San Leandro BART to keep the garden in good shape and enjoy the changes through the seasons. Join us on any or all of those days! Refreshments and tools provided.
