Reach Codes Outreach: Industrial and Manufacturing Sector

Monday, January 31, 2022

Join City of San Leandro on a discussion on changing the building code to include building electrification and electric vehicle charging for new construction. Give us your feedback to help shape the development of this local code! This session will focus on the industry and manufacturing sector. Developers, property managers, industry leaders, and residents welcome.

The City of San Leandro is considering developing a local building Reach Code for new construction and we want your input!

Reach Codes are local building energy codes that “reach” beyond state minimum requirements for energy use in building design and construction through measures such as electrification of buildings and electrical vehicle infrastructure.

We are reaching out to businesses who work with building codes and utilize natural gas, including developers, contractors, restaurants and manufacturers, to get their feedback.  Prior to adopting a Reach Code, the City is evaluating the impact on businesses and the local economy, as well as performing a Cost Effectiveness Study.

Join us at our upcoming Stakeholder Discussions:

As an valued business in San Leandro, we hope you will join us!  For more information and to RSVP, visit www.sanleandro.org/919/Reach-Codes

San Leandro’s Reach Code is being developed following the approval of the 2021 Climate Action Plan to address climate change by saving energy and reducing emissions.

Every three years, cities and counties across California adopt new Building Standards Code (Standards) or Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations. Cities can also choose to adopt local reach codes on top of these Standards.  Several cities within Alameda County have utilized reach codes, including Albany, Berkeley, Fremont, Hayward, and Oakland, joining 50+ other cities across California to push for initiatives such as electrification of buildings and electric vehicles.
