San Leandro, CA: The City of San Leandro announced today that Tony Batalla has been appointed as the Chief Technology Officer, a newly established position that will oversee the City’s Innovation Office and Information Technology Division. Mr. Batalla, a San Leandro resident who grew up in the East Bay, has been serving as the Information Technology Manager since February 2014.

“The creation of the Chief Technology Officer and Innovation Technology Analyst positions represent the latest step in San Leandro’s drive to become a center for innovation,” noted City Manager Jeff Kay, who made the appointment. “Tony has proven to be highly effective in leveraging technology to improve the efficiency of City operations. Through his work in this new role, I’m confident that we can continue to improve the services we provide to the community and support ongoing innovation efforts throughout the community.”

“I am thrilled to lead the City’s Innovation Office, while continuing the work I am doing in the IT Division,” said Mr. Batalla. “There is a natural synergy between technology and innovation and this new responsibility will enable me to expand on the innovative work that has flourished in the City.”

Before transitioning to local government, Mr. Batalla was an IT engineer and manager in the private sector, including working as a consultant and for a global biotechnology firm. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco, and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
