City of San Leandro to Celebrate June 2021 as Pride Month

Progress Pride Flag to be Raised at City Hall on June 1st

SAN LEANDRO, CA: The City of San Leandro announced today that a number of public actions will be taking place to celebrate June 2021 as Pride month. On Tuesday, June 1st at 10 a.m., the Progress Pride Flag will be raised in front of City Hall. The following week, the June 7th  City Council meeting agenda will also include a Mayoral proclamation declaring June 2021 as Pride Month in San Leandro. The proclamation will additionally honor and recognize the 27th Anniversary of the Lavender Seniors of the East Bay, for their many years of active work supporting the local LGBTQ community.

WHAT:         Raising of the Progress Pride Flag at City Hall

WHEN:         Tuesday, June 1st, at 10 a.m.

WHERE:       San Leandro City Hall, 835 East 14th Street

“As one of the most diverse cities in the United States, I believe is important to welcome and celebrate our spirit of inclusivity, and to embrace opportunities to recognize our rich diversity,” said Mayor Cutter. “When I was first elected to public office over 20 years ago, I ran on a platform that included addressing LGBTQ issues in our schools. Since that time, it is encouraging to see the social progress that has been made, and our ability to celebrate together as a community of kindness.”

Due to current public health orders that remain in effect, attendees are welcome to view the flag raising ceremony in front of City Hall while maintaining social distance. The ceremony and flying flag will also be visible from East 14th street and passing motorists. Photos will be shared on social media. The public is also invited to view the reading and adoption of the proclamation by logging into the City Council’s online meeting on June 7th at 6:30 p.m. A link to the Council meeting can be found on the City Council agenda page or by clicking on the Zoom meeting link.
