As we anticipate the swearing-in of San Leandro’s newest Police Chief on Monday, the City would like to recognize the experience and progressive contributions of interim Police Chief Susan Manheimer to our community.

“We knew we were in the right hands with Chief Manheimer,” said City Manager Fran Robustelli, “she is a well-known leader in law enforcement who previously guided the City of Oakland through its transition in leadership. Chief Manheimer is an advocate for change, a community builder, with a laser focus on improving the quality of life for the people she serves. We not only thank her for aiding the City of San Leandro during this transition, but for leading by example and ushering in a bright future for the men and women of the San Leandro Police Department.”

During her interim tenure, Chief Manheimer led us through the challenging times of this global pandemic and championed the SLPD’s “Our Path Forward” campaign highlighting the important and renewed efforts at community engagement and safety partnerships. The department demonstrated its ongoing efforts at reform using the Six Pillars for 21st Century Policing guidelines generated by a task force under the Obama administration.

In a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 13th, Abdul Pridgen will be sworn-in as the new chief of the San Leandro Police Department. Chief Pridgen most recently served in this capacity for the City of Seaside and brings 29 years of law enforcement experience to San Leandro. Prior to moving to California, Chief Pridgen served for 26 years with the Fort Worth Police Department where he attained the position of assistant chief of police.

The swearing-in ceremony will be available on Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/506831637
