Contact : Cynthia Battenberg    (510) 577-3352
Mayor Stephen Cassidy encourages you to include the many festivities in the City of San Leandro in your holiday plans.  The City has opened the holiday season with a beautiful tree in the Civic Center Plaza and lights throughout the Downtown. A sprinkling of the events and offerings here in the City are below:
  • Join the City Council at the eagerly anticipated annual Downtown Association sponsored It's a Wonderful Night event which will be held on Friday, December 7.  Visit Santa, enjoy dinner and a carriage ride, and be entertained by local performers and carolers.  This family event includes crafts, and, new this year, a holiday film.  Bring a toy for the Toys-For-Tots toy drive and receive a complimentary bag of popcorn. The event commences at 6:00 p.m. in Joaquin Plaza with gaiety continuing until 9:00 p.m. Parking will be easy in the new Downtown Garage located across the street from Joaquin Plaza.
  • A delightful and lively Senior Dance and Luncheon will be held on Friday, December 14 at 12:00 noon at the Senior Community Center. Make a reservation at the Senior Community Center, Marina Community Center or the City’s Recreation Department at City Hall South Offices.  $15 for residents; $20 for non-residents.
  • The holiday classic The Nutcracker Ballet will come to town on Saturday, December 15 when the students at the San Leandro Conservatory of Classical Ballet perform excerpts of the stunning ballet at the San Leandro Public Library at 2:00 p.m.  This free performance, in the Lecture Hall of the Main Library, will enchant all those who attend.
  • Throughout the month of December enjoy live holiday musical performances at Bayfair Center each weekend afternoon.  Catch Santa as he checks in at the Center and take advantage of the gift wrapping tables.
"This is an exciting time of year," stated Mayor Cassidy, “and I encourage residents to keep an eye out for the many local artisan craft fairs taking place throughout the community and shop local.  Your generous support of non-profit agencies which help bring a bit of cheer to local families in need this season is also appreciated.”

About San Leandro

A diverse community of nearly 85,000 residents centrally located in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Leandro maintains a safe, small town feel where neighbors care for each other, while offering a wide range of shopping, dining, recreation, miles of shoreline, and easy access to nearby regional parks and nature areas.  Over the past decade the community has invested more than $250 million in renovating and modernizing its public schools and building state-of-the-art facilities for students.

Possessing a rich manufacturing history, businesses in San Leandro enjoy multiple advantages including a large industrial and commercial zone, close proximity to the Oakland International Airport and Port of Oakland, two major freeways, two BART stations, and access to a large and well-educated workforce in the city and East Bay.  Through a public-private partnership, known as Lit San Leandro, a ten mile fiber optic loop is being constructed in the city, assisting a new set of businesses to leverage San Leandro's assets and become industry leaders in the data revolution.
