Mayor Stephen Cassidy announced today that the highly popular Downtown San Leandro Farmers' Market returns on Wednesday, April 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Parrott Street between East 14th Street and Washington Avenue.  Now in its sixth season, the market hosts an average of 2,500 patrons weekly. Community members have found the market to be a great place to meet family and friends, delight in live music, fantastic food and family friendly entertainment. The market is introducing a new Active Wednesday to its line-up of themed Wednesdays, which continue to include monthly Cooking Demonstrations, Wine Tasting, Green Days, and Margarita Wednesdays. This market has created an enriching destination in which customers enjoy and hang out in Downtown San Leandro.

The seasonal market will occur weekly on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. through October 17, 2013. The opening night features a 2013 kickoff ceremony with the members of City Council at 5:00 p.m.  The April 10 market will also feature a recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association with cake, kids activities and more.

"The Downtown San Leandro Farmers’ Market continues to be one of our most successful and enjoyable community events," said Mayor Stephen Cassidy. "We look forward to the 2013 season bringing family-friendly fun and enhanced economic activity to our downtown."

This year the market welcomes new vendors Lemus Farms (providing strawberries from Prunedale) and the Sharp brothers (bringing their knife sharpening skills), and, of course, local favorites will be returning, including Cecchini & Cecchini, J&M Farms Organic Produce, Nunez Farm Organic Produce, Rodriguez Ranch, Double R Bees honey, la Crepe a Moi, Roli Roti free range rotisserie chicken and BBQ from downtown restaurant The Englander.

The prepared foods lot will again feature live music on a weekly basis, with a mix of returning favorites and new artists. This special weekly live music series is coordinated by Larry Allphin, of Allphin Jewelers, on behalf of the San Leandro Downtown Association.

The Farmers’ Market is made possible by partnership between the City of San Leandro, Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market, and the Downtown Association. For more information, contact the Office of Business Development at (510) 577-3311.
