San Leandro, CA: The City of San Leandro announced that the City Council will be hosting a work session next week to discuss the City’s draft Fiber Optics Master Plan and Smart City Strategy. The public is invited to attend and offer comments or ask questions. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 11, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located at 835 East 14th Street in downtown San Leandro. City staff and Magellan Advisors will present a draft version of the plan that has been under development over the last year. The plan is intended to serve as a roadmap for the City’s use of technology infrastructure and related projects.
In July 2017, the City awarded the development of the plan to Magellan Advisors, a consultancy firm with deep experience in municipal broadband and smart city development. “Smart City” efforts refer to the use of technology solutions to more efficiently manage municipal assets and resources, while improving the overall quality of life for people within the city. Examples include smart street lights; smart parking systems; intelligent transportation systems; enhanced broadband services; and data analytics programs and related information systems, among others.
The Fiber Optics Master Plan & Smart City Strategy will highlight the City’s current and future smart city initiatives utilizing the City’s fiber optics network, as well as present an overview of potential models for expansion of broadband services in the community.
