To Apply For OR Renew A Library Card
Visit any library location, complete a short application (for a new card only), and present the following:

Please note: Library card applications for children ages 4 to 13 must be submitted and signed in person by a parent or guardian. The child or children must be present. The signature grants permission to the San Leandro Public Library to issue a library card and allow the minor access to the library’s computers.
Card Types
San Leandro Resident Card (Free) Residents residing within the incorporated city limits of the City of San Leandro are eligible for a free library card. Card must be renewed every three years.
Hourly User Card ($5.00 per hour) Available to individuals who do not have a San Leandro Library card or San Leandro Library cardholders whose card in in good standing. The Hourly User Card provides one hour of computer access on the day that it is purchased only. No refunds are given. A current photo ID (see examples above) must be presented at time of purchase.
Non-Resident, City of San Leandro Employee Card (Free) Persons who are employed by the City of San Leandro are eligible for free library cards. The card is limited to the employee, spouse, and children (between the ages of 4 and 17). In addition to a valid California ID with current residence address, the city employee’s City of San Leandro Photo ID badge is required. Card must be renewed every three years.
Non-Resident, Family Household Card ($60.00 per year ) Available to all members of a family living at the same address. Each person age 18 and above must present the ID documents described above. Card must be renewed every year.
Non-Resident, Full-Time San Leandro Worker Card ($30.00 per year) Available to individuals who work 40 hours per week at a worksite within the incorporated city limits of the City of San Leandro. In addition to the ID documents described above, current verification of full-time employment is required. Card must be renewed every year.
Non-Resident, K-12 Student Card (Free) Each student in grades K-12, who is enrolled in a public or private school within the incorporated limits of the City of San Leandro, or a school serving San Leandro residents, is eligible for a free library card. In addition to the ID documents described above that must be provided by a student’s parent or guardian, current verification of school enrollment is required. Card must be renewed every three years.
Non-Resident, San Leandro Business Owner/Taxpayer Card (Free) Persons who own a business within the incorporated city limits of the City of San Leandro are eligible for free library cards. This card is limited to the taxpayer, spouse, and minor children. In addition to the ID documents described above, a current business license from the City of San Leandro is required. Card must be renewed every three years.
Non-Resident, San Leandro Property Owner /Taxpayer Card (Free) Persons who own or lease property within the incorporated city limits of the City of San Leandro are eligible for free library cards. This card is limited to the taxpayer, spouse, and children between the ages of 4 and 17. In addition to the ID documents described above, printed and signed property ownership/lease documents (e.g., Property Tax Bill, Mortgage Verification, Deed of Trust, Close of Escrow, Rental/Lease Agreement) are required. Card must be renewed every three years.
Non-Resident, San Leandro Teacher, K-12 (Free) Any teacher who provides instruction at a public or private school serving kindergarten through 12th grade within the incorporated limits of the City of San Leandro, or a school serving San Leandro residents, is eligible for a free library card. In addition to the ID documents described above, verification of employment as a full-time teacher is required. Card must be renewed every three years.
Non-Resident, San Leandro Teacher, Childcare and Preschool (Free) Any teacher who provides instruction at a licensed preschool, child care center, or family child care home within the incorporated limits of the City of San Leandro is eligible for a free library card. In addition to the ID documents described above, verification of facility license number and verification of employment as a full-time teacher/childcare worker at the San Leandro school is required. Card must be renewed every three years.
Replacement Card (Free) Each card holder is responsible for all materials on his or her library account and must immediately report a lost or stolen library card to the Main Library Circulation Desk at 510-577-3970.
