Donate Materials

Due to the Shelter-in-Place Order in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Library is closed until further notice and unable to accept donations at this time.

Thank you for thinking of the San Leandro Public Library for book donations. The Library welcomes donations of books, new magazines, DVDs and audio books that are in good, clean condition. All such donated items become the property of the San Leandro Public Library.

Donated items will be reviewed for possible addition to the library collection. Criteria for adding materials include currency, condition and relevance to the Library's collection development guidelines. Items not added to the collection may be given to the Friends of the San Leandro Library. The Library is under no obligation to add donated materials to the collection or to notify the donor of the disposition of the items.

All donated items must be delivered to the Main Library. Donations should be placed in small boxes or shopping bags. Large delivery arrangements can be made by calling (510) 577-3986.

The library does not accept the following items:

  • Newspapers
  • Magazines older than 2 months
  • National Geographic magazines
  • Encyclopedia sets
  • Textbooks
  • Readers' Digest Condensed Books
  • Software
  • Music cassettes
  • Library discards

Donation receipt letters are available to donors. Library staff members do not estimate the value of donations.
