The San Leandro Public Library is excited to announce the limited reopening of our Main Library starting Wednesday, May 19th!
Library staff are working hard to get the Main Library ready to welcome you back for in-person services.
The Main Library’s limited in-person service hours are:
Patrons are asked to limit their time in the library to no more than one hour and to abide by all safety protocols including social distancing and mask requirements.

Will the entire Main Library be open?
The first and second floor collections, including the Children’s Library and Teen Corner, will be open for browsing. Some areas of the Library will remain closed, including the History room, the Electronic Learning Center (ELC), meeting rooms, the Secret Garden, the café, bookstore, and water fountains.
Can I browse the Main Library’s book collections?
All collections at the Main Library are available for browsing, except the books in the History Room.
Is the Children’s library open?
The Children’s Library will be open for collection browsing and limited computer use. The tables, reading chairs, touchscreen early literacy computers, toys and play space are not available at this time. Limited reference service is available at the Children’s Desk.
How can I use a computer at the Library?
There are 8 standing computers and 16 seated computers available for 60-minute sessions, with a minimum of six feet between each computer. Patrons are requested to use hand and disinfect shared equipment after use. We also have an assisted technology computer for patrons with disabilities, and a video phone booth for deaf individuals. You will need a library card number to use a computer. If you don’t have a card, please request an e-card at least 24 hours in advance of your visit, or you can apply for a card onsite.
Can I get help with my computer or device at the Library?
Staff will be following public health guidance and safety protocols, including maintaining at least 6 feet of space and limiting in-person conversations. Staff will not be able to touch computers or personal devices, so assistance will be limited.
How can I print at the Library?
There are two ways to print:

Use a Library PC to print a document (you will need your San Leandro library card number to login)
Patrons can print up to 20 black and white pages daily for free
Can I study at the Library?
At this time, tables and reading chairs are not available, for the safety of both the staff and the public.
Can I pay for my lost or damaged items while at the Library?
We will not be taking in-person payments until further notice, so please use our app or visit our website for payments.
The Library currently unable to make change for our copy machines or Print Release stations at this time. Please come prepared with small bills or coins (no pennies) for the copy machine. The Print Release station accepts small bills, coins (no pennies), or a credit or debit card.
I don’t have my library card with me – how can I check out materials?
You can download our mobile app and enter your barcode, then use that at the Library to borrow materials
If you lost your card, please email email@example.com for a replacement barcode.
For new library cards, please email us at least 24 hours in advance of your visit to request an e-card.
What safety precautions are you taking?

Visits are limited to one hour or less
Capacity is capped at 125 visitors
Can I donate books now?
We are not taking book donations at this time.
Can I attend a program at the Library?
Programs will continue to be held virtually until it is safe to resume indoor gatherings without distancing restrictions.
When will the branch libraries be re-open?
Our branches will reopen when staffing permits.
Can I still use curbside?
As we transition to limited in-person services, we will halt all our curbside appointment services.
Is available at the Library? Can I use my laptop at the Library?
While is available, there are no tables or chairs for general use right now, so there isn’t a place to sit to use a laptop or mobile device.
