Matthew Barajas began his law enforcement career with the San Leandro Police Department in December of 2007. Matthew worked as a police officer until he was promoted to a Vice / Narcotics Detective in 2012. He was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant in June of 2016 and Police Lieutenant in February of 2021.
He worked a number of assignments to including Patrol, Crime Scene Technician, Vice/Narcotics Detective, Crime Suppression Unit Detective, SWAT Team Leader, Peer Support Team Leader, Force Options Team Leader, Detective Sergeant for the Crime Suppression Unit, and Crimes Against Property.
Education
Matthew was born and raised in San Leandro and earned a Bachelor of Administration Degree in Business and Economics from Saint Mary's College of California. In 2014, he obtained a Master of Arts Degree from Saint Mary's College in Organizational Leadership. Matthew is also a graduate of Leadership San Leandro, reinforcing his commitment and involvement in the community.

He is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.
