Job Opportunities
The City of San Leandro Human Resources Department is committed to establishing a qualified and diverse candidate pool with the necessary qualifications to provide outstanding service to the public. We have over 200 job classifications in many fields, including Information Technology, Finance, Public Works, Human Services, and more. The City is dedicated to ensuring equal opportunity employment for all applicants. Below, you can take a closer look at the key components of our candidate experience:
To apply, select the job title and click on the green "Apply" button in the upper right-hand corner. All submitted applications will be reviewed after the job announcement closes and can take two to three weeks, depending on the number of applications received. Please take note of deadlines. Continuous postings may close at any time, so we encourage you to apply promptly. Occasionally, we may reserve the right to change information contained within the job posting without notice.
You can also submit a Job Interest Card request to receive an e-mail notification of future job openings for which you are interested.
All applications are carefully reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum qualifications noted within the job posting. Top candidates who may possess ideal qualifications will advance to the next step of the selection process, which may include a panel interview.
The best qualified candidates from the previous steps may be invited to a structured oral interview and/or practical exercise. Structured interviews will be conducted and evaluated by a panel of two to three subject matter experts. A passing score from the panel interview will place your name on the Employment List, ranked in order of final qualifying scores.
Note: If your name is certified to the list and you are not appointed to the position, your name will maintain its place on the list or move up as others are appointed.
Top ranking names on the Employment List will be made available to the hiring department to fill a vacancy. The hiring manager in the respective department may contact those candidates for further interview. This is an opportunity for candidates to confirm if the position is a good fit for them and obtain more information regarding the specific group's work culture, environment, and expectations. The candidates will be asked to provide professional references’ contact information prior to receiving a job offer.
If you are selected to fill a vacant position, you will receive a conditional job offer that will include a salary offer, anticipated start date, pre-employment conditions, and other job-specific information. If any pre-employment conditions are not successfully satisfied, the City reserves the right to rescind the job offer.
Once all pre-employment conditions are successfully met, a final offer will be sent confirming employment with the City. Along with the hiring department, an HR representative will guide you through the pre-boarding steps to prepare you for your first day.
