As a City of Kindness, the City is proactively looking for solutions for homelessness and has also received a mandate from the community to help our homeless community. The City is interested in preliminarily approaching the Nimitz Motel to explore the feasibility of converting the current property to achieve the community mandate.
In addition, the City also continues to search for other potentially viable properties and several locations throughout the City for short and/or long-term solutions for the homeless that includes tiny homes, rapid re-housing, navigation center and transitional and affordable housing units.
Any City funding for a property purchase will become public and go through a public approval process.
The City remains committed to housing solutions, as well as, social and mental health services for our unhoused community members.
